It’s now official!

Charles Manyuchi will defend his World Boxing Federation middleweight world title in Masvingo on July 3.

In a historic event that will also see boxing taking a lead in promoting Government’s devolution policy, Manyuchi will take on Muhamad Sebyala of Uganda at the Flamboyant Hotel in Masvingo.

The boxer will also attempt to unify his WBF title with the World Alliance Boxing Association (WABA) and the World Professional Boxing Federation (WPBF) titles on the night.

Dubbed the “Duel of the Doom”, the fight was launched in the country’s oldest town on Thursday afternoon.

This will be the first time Manyuchi will be staging a title fight in Masvingo since 2009 when he turned professional.

It was in Masvingo where the 32-year-old kicked off his career under the tutelage of Eddison Zvobgo Jr.

The Masvingo businessman hailed the Zimbabwean champion for his decision to retrace his footsteps.

“This is a momentous occasion and I am very happy this is the first time you find four or five belts being fought for in Masvingo.

“It’s important to support our sporting son.

“This is also devolution taking place, taking the big fights away from Harare,” said Zvobgo Jr.

Boxing promoter Takudzwa Chibaya said some young talent from Charles Manyuchi Academy gunning for international titles will also be showcased on the day.

“The boxers are fired up and we are geared for fight night,” he said.

Organisers said Covid-19 protocols and guidelines will be closely followed.
