MAZOWE Mining Company (MMC) will resume underground mining in compliance with the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development’s directive for the company to cease unsafe pit mining.

In a statement on Friday, MMC said the initiative aligns with the Government’s call for sustainable mining practices.

“On March 11, 2024, the Ministry of Mines Inspectorate conducted a safety inspection of pit mining operations around Mazowe Mine,” said the mining company.

“Following the inspection, the Inspectorate suspended all unsafe mining practices in the affected areas on March 24, 2024. This order effectively halted all unsafe mining operations to pave the way for formal, regulated operations.

“MMC is fully cooperating with all parties to support the Government of Zimbabwe’s vision for safer, sustainable, formal mining.”
