New mining districts gazetted

Government has gazetted regulations that pave way for the decentralisation of mining districts to eight provincial capitals in a move expected to meet service demand and enhance monitoring and surveillance of mining activities.This is in line with the Government’s restructuring exercise, which seeks to ensure people travel shorter distances to access mining services.

It also comes in the wake of the proliferation of mining activities all over the country.

According to the Mines and Minerals (Mining Districts) Notice published in Statutory Instrument 125 of 2014 of the Government Gazette, mining districts of Harare, Kadoma, Gweru, Bulawayo and Masvingo were abolished and replaced with eight new mining districts.
