NEW: Musami villagers hail borehole scheme

VILLAGERS from Musami village, Murewa district, Mashonaland East, have hailed the Presidential Borehole Drilling Scheme for impacting livelihoods and saving lives amid a cholera outbreak.

The villagers, most of whom used to fetch water kilometres away, now have it at their doorsteps following the drilling of five boreholes in the area.

“As a community, we are more than grateful and would like to thank the Government for fulfilling its promises of providing adequate water to every citizen in the remote areas, leaving no one and no place behind,” said Musami village chairperson Mr Johane Muruviwa.

The boreholes will enable communities to establish horticulture gardens, orchards and fisheries, among other income-generating projects.

Government plans to put solarised boreholes in all the 35 000 villages countrywide.
