Serve Our Earth Capital Trust (SOECT), a Harare-based non-governmental organisation, has embarked on a tree planting programme that will see the organisation plant 3 500 trees countrywide.

SOECT recently launched the initiative at Best Ebenezer Primary School in Eastview, Harare, where it planted 50 trees.

The programme is meant to help mitigate against climate change.

SOECT mitigation and programmes director, Mrs Lenia Mbira, said the initiative will also empower communities.

“We are here today at Best Ebenezer Primary to plant these trees because we want these young children to know the importance of tree planting.

“Our organisation exists because we want to do our level best in issues to do with environment and climate change. We are also into humanitarian issues, but today we are focusing on environmental issues,” she said.
