OVER 50 households are earning a living from the Zvavachari Irrigation Scheme in Mberengwa district in the Midlands Province.

The scheme covers an area of around 10 hectares.

Irrigation development is spearheading Government’s rural development and industrialisation thrust.

Speaking during a field day held recently at the scheme, Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development Permanent Secretary Professor Obert Jiri said:

“Irrigation development is the way to go to ensure the nation’s food security and economic development.

“More than 50 households are benefiting from the scheme.”

Professor Jiri urged the private sector to also invest in irrigation development.
