TWO dangerous criminals, one of them serving a life sentence for murder, have escaped from Mutimurefu Prison in Masvingo today.
Tafadzwa Janyure Zimirenyika (27), who was serving life in prison for crimes including murder, rape and armed robbery, escaped together with James Masunda (34).
Masunda was serving 27 years for cases including rape and armed robbery.
It could not be established how the duo escaped. prison.
Zimbabwe Republic Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the two criminals escaped early in the morning today.
Comm Nyathi added that Zimirenyika was also linked to 203 other cases involving murder, armed robbery and rape.
He was still awaiting trial when he escaped.
“The two escaped today early in the morning and we have launched a manhunt for them,” said Comm Nyathi.
“The criminals should be treated as very dangerous people and anyone with information about their whereabouts should inform the nearest police station.”
