A Zimbabwe Republic Police officer, Constable Tanki Gwaze, died on Sunday after his in-laws allegedly assaulted him the previous day.

The incident occurred in Glendale following a heated marital dispute between Constable Gwaze and his wife.

According to a police report, Constable Gwaze’s wife left her matrimonial home following the dispute.

Her brothers, Shadreck and John Mutero, learned of the dispute and visited Constable Gwaze’s home to claim their sister’s property.

Constable Gwaze reportedly refused to give them anything and suggested that they bring an independent person to witness what was going on.

The Mutero brothers allegedly resorted to violence.

National Police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident and said investigations were underway to establish the finer details of the incident.

“It is reported that they tied Constable Gwaze with a wire and assaulted him. He was then rushed to hospital where he received medical treatment and was discharged. However, his health deteriorated at home until he passed away the following day on July 7,” said Comm Nyathi.

Shadreck and John are still at large.
