President Mnangagwa has extended his condolences to families who have lost loved ones in the devastating rainfall-induced disasters that have swept across Zimbabwe in recent weeks.
The disasters, which have caused widespread destruction, have claimed dozens of lives through drowning, lightning strikes and mining accidents, leaving many communities in mourning.
In a statement released today, Local Government and Public Works Minister Daniel Garwe said the recent torrential rains have severely damaged schools, health facilities, homes, roads and bridges, disrupting daily life and leaving many stranded.
“Tragically, we have lost lives due to drowning, lighting strikes and mining accidents,” he said.
“The President, Cde Dr ED Mnangagwa extends his deepest condolences to all affected families during these disasters.
“While some regions have faced the brunt of the devastation, every area is grappling with the severe consequences of flooding.
In response, he said, the Department of Civil Protection, in coordination with the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Sub-Aqua Unit and the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, has been conducting search and rescue operations to assist affected communities.
With meteorologists forecasting continued heavy rains, Minister Garwe urged Zimbabweans to prioritise safety.
