THE construction of Zimbabwe’s first-ever pine resin processing plant is nearing completion, with works now 90 percent complete.
The US$15 million facility, located in Mutasa district, Manicaland province, is designed to process resin extracted from pine trees for use in the production of tyres, paints, adhesives and other products.

In a statement, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce said construction, which began in October 2025, is nearing completion, with commissioning expected later this year.
The plant is being developed by Komo Private Limited.
“Komo Pvt Ltd Pine Resin Processing plant is under construction and is 90 percent complete,” reads an X post by the ministry.
“The investment includes a US$5 million plant located in Manicaland. Construction began in October 2025 and commissioning is set for this year.”
The project is expected to boost local industry, create jobs and reduce reliance on imports.

“Komo will employ over 3 000 locals,” reads the statement.
“Processed resin is used in the manufacture of products like tyres, ink, paint, adhesive, glue, electronics, medical and food supplies. Upon completion, Komo becomes the fifth resin processing plant in Africa.”
Zimbabwe boasts large pine plantations in Manicaland, particularly around Chimanimani, Chipinge, Nyanga and Vumba.
