New restaurant opens at Hillside Dams

Bulawayo’s Hillside Dams Conservancy has become home to a captivating new eatery named Vimbai’s, which promises to deliver an unparalleled dining experience.

The restaurant is gearing up for its grand debut on 1 October.

Inspired by the tranquil allure of the location, Sherine Taylor, the mastermind behind Vimbai’s, seized the perfect opportunity to introduce a culinary gem to the area.

“I have always loved the tranquil location of the Hillside Dams Conservancy. The correct timing presented itself,” Taylor said.

Vimbai’s Restaurant aims to seamlessly blend into its natural surroundings, offering visitors a haven of flavours and convenience. With a mission to provide fresh, consistent, and quick meals, Taylor envisions enhancing the day-out experience for patrons.

“We will also provide a range of protein-based power poke bowls for those focusing on healthy lifestyles,” she added, divulging the concept and theme of the restaurant.

While opening a restaurant inevitably presents challenges, Taylor expressed her gratitude for the unwavering support she has received thus far.

“I have had the most tremendous support from the Hillside Dams Committee, business colleagues, and friends, so to date, none that we have not managed to overcome” she shared, highlighting the resilience that has brought Vimbai’s to life. What sets Vimbai’s apart from the crowd is not just its idyllic location but also its commitment to uplifting the local community. We are looking forward to promoting other small businesses by having pop-up restaurants on Saturday evenings, inviting different cuisines to be showcased,” Taylor revealed.

Collaborations with Curry in a Hurry and Nduna Burgers are already in the works, promising an array of culinary experiences. Additionally, Vimbai’s boasts a versatile space perfect for hosting small events, including the esteemed Ndaba Room, available for business meetings upon reservation.

“By partnering with the right suppliers, we are committed to delivering exceptional culinary experiences to our customers.”

Embracing the spirit of local support, Vimbai’s proudly hires local staff and has formed partnerships with esteemed businesses such as Hog and Hunter for locally crafted beers, Belmont Meats for fresh meats, and Magitare Acoustic Night for captivating live local music.

“I strongly believe in supporting locals where I can,” Taylor said.

Taylor has high expectations for the success and growth of Vimbai’s.

“We expect that, having provided consistent good quality meals and service, we will see this space succeed and grow,’ she affirmed confidently.

To actively engage with the Hillside Dams community and entice customers, Vimbai’s plans to work hand-in-hand with the Hillside Dams Committee. Furthermore, they envision organising promotions and events focused on conservancy education, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation for nature within today’s society.
