NEW: Rhinos to unveil 2021 squad, sponsorship

ARMY side Black Rhinos, eager to make a big impression this season, are expected to unveil their 2021 squad and two corporate partners at a function that is set for Josiah Magama Tongogara Barracks in Harare on Thursday morning.

Funeral services provider Moonlight and agrochemicals firm Fossil Agro are expected to officially announce their sponsorship deals with Chauya Chipembere, who have been going about their business quietly since football activity resumed following a year-long Covid-19-induced break.

The soldiers have also beefed up their squad ahead of the season-opening Chibuku Super Cup, which kicks off on Saturday.

Black Rhinos – who are in Group 3 of the tournament, which is being played in cluster format – will begin get their Chibuku Super Cup campaign with a clash against Premiership newboys Tenax at Sakubva in Mutare on Saturday (kick-off 3pm)

Some of the new arrivals expected to be unveiled at the Rhinos function include the former Dynamos pair of Tawanda Chisi and Kudzanai Dhemere.

Coach Herbert Maruwa, who is eyeing some silverware this season, has also added to his squad the unheralded centre-back Tendai Ruziye from Division One outfit Black Mambas and ex-Harare City wing-back Gareth Madhake.

The latter’s move has, however, been caught up in a contractual dispute as City are reportedly demanding that Madhake leaves on loan.

Ruziye is a direct replacement for Andrew Tandi, who is now at Highlanders, while Chisi, who can also play also a defensive midfielder or at centre-back, comes in to fill the gap created by Marvelous Mukumba’s move to Ngezi Platinum Stars.

Rhinos are also in the same group with fellow army side Cranborne Bullets and Manica Diamonds, who will square off at the same venue on Sunday.
