Most schools across the country are now equipped with fully stocked sanitary wear storage rooms to improve school attendance among girls, particularly in rural areas.

This was said by Primary and Secondary Education Minister Torerai Moyo while responding to a question from National Assembly proportional representation member, Dr Thokozani Khupe.

Dr Khupe had asked if Government had started implementing the Girls’ Room initiative which seeks to provide sanitary wear in schools.

“We had some tours three weeks ago to determine whether sanitary wear is available in schools,” said Minister Moyo. “The Portfolio Committee on Primary and Secondary Education accompanied Ministry officials and in all the schools that we visited, we discovered that they have sanitary wear.

“There are specific rooms where sanitary wear can be found for use by the girls.”

Minister Moyo said Government and its partners were funding the initiative.
