COWDRAY Park Primary school was officially opened on Monday with pupils transferred from the over-crowded Mahlathini and Tategulu Primary schools to the new school.
The new school is situated in Cowdray Park Garikai/Hlalani Kuhle new stands.
Bulawayo Provincial Education Director, Dan Moyo said the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education had brought forward the official opening of the new school to relieve pressure at the other primary schools in the suburb.
“Cowdray Park Primary school is not yet registered but we opened it to decongest the pupils at Mahlathini and Tategulu. The schools were congested with more than 2,000 pupils hence we moved 160 pupils to the new school,” said Moyo.
Moyo said the school has classes ranging from Grades one to Four adding: “Some teachers were also transferred from Tategulu and Mahlathini to teach at the new school.”
Residents said they were grateful to the ministry for building Cowdray Park Primary School.
“The school is an advantage to us as parents because our children have since moved to a nearer school. Our children were forced to walk long distances and during those heavy rains we either had to take them to school or they would miss lessons as they could not cross the stream that separates Hlalani Kuhle from the rest of Cowdray Park,” said Sibonisiwe Marewo.
