REDEFINING education in Zimbabwe is set to take a significant leap forward with the imminent opening of St Leonard Academy.
The institution, located in the heart of Sally Mugabe Heights, is ready to welcome its inaugural cohort when the new school term begins next year, promising a transformative learning experience for learners from Early Childhood Development (ECD) right through to high school.
It is offering a world-class academic curriculum that prepares students for success in an ever-changing world.
In an interview, the owner, Dr Leonard Mukumba, expressed confidence in the teaching staff.
“We are result-oriented and have taken time to recruit what we believe is the best. All our staff are degreed with expertise in their fields.
He added that: “We have also given our all to ensure that the school boasts high level equipment such as interactive boards from ECD up to high school as a strategic move to improve student outcomes and long-term institutional value.
St Leonard Academy is not just a school; it is envisioned as a modern learning ecosystem designed to cater to the whole learner.
It offers flexible enrolment options, serving both day and boarding learners, providing convenience and accessibility for families in Sally Mugabe Heights and all the provinces at large.
The school’s headmaster, Mr Farai Mushonga, said: “We are committed to providing a nurturing environment where students can grow academically, socially, and spiritually.
“As a result, we are encouraging Form One learners to come to St Leonard despite their results. Our aim is to prove that we can transform every leaner to attain their potential,” said Mr Mushonga.
Families seeking an exceptional educational environment for their children are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity as enrolment is now actively underway across various levels.
“The expected total number of learners is 250 with a teaching staff complement of seven for ECD to primary level, while 10 are for secondary, one being a lab technician. ECD teachers with a minimum five-year experience to 13 were considered age sensitivity.
“Our state-of-the-art infrastructure includes modern classrooms, well-equipped science laboratories, and a comprehensive library with access to digital resources.
“Learners will enjoy access to iPads and laptops, enabling them to engage with interactive lessons and develop essential digital skills. We have installed smartboards (Interactive boards) in all our classrooms. In other words our learners will be tech-savvy and well-equipped to thrive in a digital age.
“We are a Cambridge International School, offering a globally-recognised curriculum that empowers learners to excel. We also offer Zimsec and are to say we have met their requirements.
“Our sports facilities are top-notch, offering a range of options including rugby, cricket, football, swimming basketball, netball, and athletics. We believe in fostering a healthy body and mind, and our learners are encouraged to participate in various sports and extracurricular activities,” added Mr Mushonga.
“What sets us apart, however, is our state-of-the-art boarding facilities where two learners occupy a room, with each having his/her own fitted wardrobe. The solid precast wall around the girls hostel speaks for itself on our emphasis for the safety of the girl child. Our boys will enjoy the same stimulating environment. Further to that will be a CCTV to boost security.
“The environment at St Leonard allows our learners to focus on their studies, explore their passions.
“We also boast of a clinic with a resident qualified nurse available 24 hours. Should a learner face a major medical challenge, plans are underway for a trauma centre.
Authorities at St Leonard have made great strides to ensure their learners are comfortable by connecting to the national power grid..
“St Leonard is connected to Zesa as our main source of power with a robust solar-powered back up,” said Mr Mushonga.
The academy’s commitment to quality education and top-tier facilities positions it as a premier destination for learners.
Interested parents and guardians wishing to view the premises can take advantage to visit this Sunday from 10am.
One of the parents who had come to view the institution, Ms Susan Kambamura could only say: “The premises are breathtaking. My prayer is that the results will match them.”
