A Mufakose-based orphanage, Wings of Grace, received a timely boost ahead of the winter season after a donation of blankets and foodstuffs from the founder of LM Auctions, Mr Lewis Muzhara, on Saturday.
Touched by the plight of children at the orphanage, Mr Muzhara, who grew up in the high-density suburb, extended a helping hand.
“I feel humbled to be giving to the community which I grew up in and I understand the situation that these children have to go through,” he said.
“And I believe it is our duty that with the little that we have we give back to the community and help those that are disadvantaged and vulnerable.
“As we head into the winter season, we saw it fit that we come and hand our brothers and sisters blankets so that they can also enjoy the warmth that others enjoy in winter. It is our small way of giving.”
He paid tribute to Gogo Gwanzura for playing a key role in the community by providing proper shelter to orphans.
“Very few have the heart that Gogo Gwanzura has, and we would like to thank her for compassion to our brothers and sister.
“As someone who grew up seeing her works in giving shelter to our brothers and sisters, I believe we have a duty to help in ensuring that they get the basic necessities.”
Wings of Grace Orphanage secretary-general Sylvia Nyakuengama was thankful for the donation.
“We are really grateful to Mr Muzhara for the benevolent gesture that he has extended to us,” she said.
“Everyone is happy and excited with what has been done.”
