SOUTH AFRICAN police recovered a stolen Toyota Fortuner VX on Tuesday that was intended for illegal export to Zimbabwe.
Limpopo police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba said the vehicle was recovered through a joint intelligence-driven operation.
“On Tuesday, April 1, 2025, an anti-smuggling operation was conducted along the N1 North, near Peter Mokaba Stadium, following intelligence about a stolen Toyota Fortuner VX traveling from Gauteng Province towards the Beitbridge Port of Entry for smuggling,” he said.
“The operational teams, which included the Anti-Smuggling Team, Polokwane LCRC, and external law enforcement partners from Tshimollo Security and Investigation, were deployed to monitor the vehicle. The vehicle was spotted heading north on the N1 and was stopped for investigation.
“Upon on-site verification, it was confirmed that the Toyota Fortuner had been reported stolen over the weekend in Pretoria Central. The driver, a 43-year-old South African male, was arrested immediately. The vehicle, valued at R800 000, was seized as part of the investigation.
“The suspect is scheduled to appear before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, facing charges of possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle.”
