THE tourism and hospitality sector plays a pivotal role in the nation’s economic development, cultural exchange and attainment of Vision 2030, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Barbara Rwodzi has said.

Addressing delegates on Friday at the ongoing 16th edition of Sanganai/Hlanganani World Tourism Expo in Bulawayo, Minister Rwodzi said:

“The growth we are witnessing today is no doubt a culmination of your dedication, passion and unwavering commitment to this important sector of our economy.

“As you may be aware, tourism is not just an industry; it is a gateway to cultural exchange, economic growth and international collaboration.

“It is a sector that has the potential to shape our nation’s image and bring prosperity to our people.”

According to Minister Rwodzi, Government provides the framework, infrastructure and policies to support tourism, while the private sector brings innovation, investment and operational expertise.

“Together, we can create a vibrant and sustainable tourism ecosystem,” she said.

She urged the private sector to continue driving innovation in the field of tourism, finding new ways to enhance the visitor experience and making destinations more accessible and attractive.

The National Development Strategy 1 identifies tourism as one of the key pillars of the economy.

Sanganai/Hlanganani World Tourism Expo, Minister Rwodzi added, is one of the major vehicles to achieve set targets.

“By taking advantage of the expo to market Destination Zimbabwe, I am confident that tourism is set to continue growing as witnessed by the ongoing sustained growth rate in arrivals and investment inflows.”
