FAITH and traditional healers affiliated with the Zimbabwe Spirit Medium and Prophets Angels Association (ZSMPAA) are bemoaning the proliferation of fake prophets from neighbouring countries, claiming they are robbing poor people of their hard-earned money.
ZSMPAA president Sekuru Mutasa (Bright Mharadze) said the fake foreign prophets and traditional healers are also putting the traditional and faith healing practices into disrepute.
“We are getting daily reports from people who are being conned by these fake prophets,” Sekuru Mutasa said.
Nyasha Mashomashoma, a Ruwa-based traditional healer, urged the Government to enact a law banning traditional healers from advertising.
“These fake prophets advertise and hoodwink people. I suggest that the Government bans traditional and faith healers from advertising on social media,” Mashomashoma said.
Mashomashoma said people are failing to differentiate between genuine and fake prophets.
“People are losing faith in traditional and faith healing. Fake traditional healers are robbing unsuspecting victims of large sums of money,” she added.
In recent years, a number of foreigners who were masquerading as traditional healers have been arrested and deported.
