UPCOMING sungura musician Mlilo Joyinani is determined to fight drug and substance abuse through music.
The Ushwekunze-based musician has since penned two songs that highlight the dangers associated with drug and substance abuse.
One of the songs, “Siya Mbanje”, has been well-received and is getting fair airplay and decent social media views.
Barely a month after releasing “Siya Mbanje”, Joyinani is already working on “Tichazovei Vana Vaparara”, which carries a similar theme.
“Through these songs, I want to knock sense into the minds of those that abuse drugs or those that might be mulling plans to start taking drugs,” he said.
“Some people learn fast whenever they get the message through music.”
The young musician said he was taking a cue from the late System Tazvida and Paul Matavire, whose music mainly focused on a single theme.
“If you look at it closely, System Tazvida and Paul Matavire mostly sang about love and they were like experts in that field. In my case, my major area of interest is fighting drug and substance abuse, hence the majority of my songs are on this subject.”
In “Siya Mbanje”, Joyinani expertly fused sungura music with the majukwa drum rhythm to produce a soothing and yet energetic beat that is appealing to youths.
