VICE PRESIDENT Dr Constantino Chiwenga today met Iranian President Mosoud Pezeshkian to discuss ways of deepening bilateral relations between the two countries.

The two leaders held the meeting on the sidelines of the Iran-Africa Economic Conference that seeks to enhance trade and investment between Tehran and African countries.

The conference, which started today, coincides with the Iranian Expo, where the country showcases its export potential.

In a brief interview with Zimbabwean journalists soon after a closed-door meeting with the Iranian leader, VP Chiwenga said their discussions centred on how to increase cooperation, which is consistent with President Mnangagwa’s assertion that Zimbabwe is a friend to all and an enemy to none.

VP Chiwenga later addressed the conference and pledged Zimbabwe’s commitment to boost trade and cooperation with Iran.

In his address, VP Chiwenga said Africa offers viable business prospects for the continent and Iran.

“Africa’s emerging markets offer significant opportunities for Iranian businesses to expand their global reach while also contributing to the development of African industries,” he said.

“The African Continental Free Trade Area has unified the continent into a single market of 1,4 billion people with a combined Gross Domestic Product of US$2,4 trillion.

“This initiative provides the motivation for Iranian investors to capitalise on the economies of scale to invest in Africa.”

Several Government ministries, departments and agencies are represented at the conference.
