New year, new fashion trends

THE beginning of a new year signals change, and it’s an ideal time to take stock of your wardrobe and hit refresh. Whether you’re keen to try a new colour, invest in cocktail jewellery or embrace dresses, here’s the guide on how to get ahead in the 2018 styles.

Wide leg trousers

These comfortable trousers are here to stay for a long time. Ranging from high waist trousers to wide-leg cropped ones, this bottom wear will look stylish with silk camisole tops or even those full sleeve shirts.

Wild wearable art

The trend of bold prints in colour blocking patterns is surely going to shake up your wardrobe. If you’re colour blocking in 2018, keep your palette restrained to those three primary colours (red, yellow and blue).

Measured sheer

Sheer, mesh, and other translucent fabrics may have once been considered strictly night time wear, but no more. When worn over slip dress, or dress, or with plain trousers, or with a leather bustier, the overall look doesn’t necessarily says risqué rather chic.

Balloon sleeves

We’ve already seen sleeves get super-sized in 2017. Voluminous blouses that feel a little bit 19th century are in. Sleeve theatre is here to stay.

Fantastic plastic

Love it or hate it, the see through clothing, bags and shoes will be 2018s major trends. Plastic bombers, plastic bucket hats and boots are the must haves. The plastic sandals have done well in 2017 and the see through trend is a growing.

Lilac/ lavender is the new pink

We gotta watch out for lilac, as a tonic to millennial pink, in all shades. Soft shades of lavender and lilac popped up in spring ’18 shows such as Victoria Beckham. The colour is a nice change from pink and looks great on every item.

Statement jewellery

Let statement-making jewellery do all the talking come 2018. You will feel a hint of the 80s thanks to oversized earrings and layered necklaces that seem to make accessorising fun again. Skip the more delicate pieces in favour of bolder options.

Fisher man bag (net)

We were looking for the next it bag, and we found it with fisherman totes. Fashion houses have transformed the mundane netting material into stylish carry-alls for your essentials. The bags will definitely be the catch of the day come 2018.

We are bidding goodbye to cut out asymmetric tops. Why one would want to be warm on one side of your body and cold on the other side is beyond me.

Or, even worse, trying to navigate what to wear under an asymmetric jumper where random bits of skin are on show.
