ZIMBABWE and Equatorial Guinea should deepen and broaden their bilateral relations to improve the lives of their people, Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Professor Amon Murwira has said.
Prof Murwira made the remarks on Saturday while officially opening the inaugural Joint Permanent Commission on Cooperation (JPCC) between the two countries in Harare.
The two nations are holding discussions aimed at boosting cooperation under the JPCC framework, which will culminate in the signing of memoranda of understanding at a function to be attended by President Mnangagwa and his counterpart, President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo.
“We are confident that this framework will further broaden and deepen our excellent bilateral relations,” said Prof Murwira.
“This meeting affirms our collective commitment to uplift our strategic partnership to higher heights.
“This JPCC, therefore, serves as the bedrock upon which our cooperation will be advanced in a structured, results-oriented manner. It demonstrates our growing friendship, with bonds rooted in shared values, Pan-African solidarity and our mutually shared vision to advance inclusive and sustainable development for our peoples so that they live happy and prosperous lives.”
Speaking at the same occasion, Equatorial Guinea’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Diaspora, Mr Simeon Oyono Esono Angue, said the two countries should continue strengthening cooperation in various sectors for mutual benefit.
“It should translate into improving the lives of our people who are waiting for tangible results,” he said.
The event was attended by several Cabinet Ministers, permanent secretaries and senior Government officials.
