NEW: Zimbabwe move up FIFA rankings

Online Reporter

The Warriors reaped the benefits of utilising the FIFA international break as they moved two places up the ladder on the latest world rankings, following their participation at a four-nation tournament held in Malawi in March.

Zimbabwe are ranked 122, up from 124 on the April 2024 rankings released by world football governing body FIFA on Thursday morning.

The Warriors lost 3-1 to Kenya in the final of the four-nation tournament after dispatching rivals Zambia via a penalty shootout in the semis.

Norman Mapeza was in charge of the Warriors on an interim basis.

Zimbabwe also moved two places up to 33 on the Confederation of African Football (CAF) rankings.

The country still remains below the likes of Comoros, Tanzania, Mozambique, Uganda and Madagascar.

South Africa, who Zimbabwe play in a World Cup qualifier in June, are now 10th on the continent.

Morocco, Senegal, Nigeria, Egypt and Cote d’Ivoire are the top five teams in Africa.

Argentina, France, Belgium, England and Brazil occupy the top five in the world.
