SENIOR OFFICIALS from Rwanda and Zimbabwe met in Kigali yesterday for the Senior Officials Meeting of the 3rd Session of the Joint Permanent Commission of Cooperation (JPCC), setting the stage for high-level ministerial talks scheduled for August 6.
The gathering served as a key preparatory platform to assess the status of bilateral cooperation, track progress on previous commitments and chart new areas for collaboration.
Welcoming Zimbabwe’s delegation, Rwanda’s Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, MrsClementine Mukeka, reaffirmed her country’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with Zimbabwe.
She highlighted critical areas of mutual interest, including trade, agriculture, education and health.
Leading the Zimbabwean delegation, Mr Pearson Chigiji, chief director of political affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, expressed gratitude to the Rwandan government for hosting the session.
He emphasised Zimbabwe’s dedication to driving the cooperation agenda forward through tangible, result-oriented outcomes.
The officials reviewed the implementation matrix from the previous JPCC session and held technical discussions on proposed memoranda of understanding.
These agreements are expected to shape the next phase of collaboration between the two nations.
The outcomes of the Senior Officials Meeting will inform the Ministerial Session of the JPCC on August 6, where both countries are anticipated to sign new cooperation instruments, further solidifying their diplomatic and developmental partnership.
