ZIMBABWE will intensify aeromagnetic and geological exploration in 2027 to establish the extent and value of its mineral resources and unlock new opportunities for investment and economic development.

The exercise is expected to identify new mineral deposits, quantify existing resources and provide scientific data to guide investment and the sustainable exploitation of the country’s mineral wealth.

Speaking in Kadoma today at the conclusion of the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development’s seven-day Strategic Plan Review Workshop, Mines and Mining Development Minister Dr Polite Kambamura said the country needed to embrace modern exploration technologies to fully establish its mineral potential.

He said Zimbabwe was endowed with critical and transition minerals whose importance was growing globally, but the country still lacked sufficient information on the quantities available.

“The world is talking about critical minerals, transition minerals and so forth. We have them in Zimbabwe, but we do not know how much we have,” he said.

Dr Kambamura said developed countries were increasingly using advanced exploration technologies, including satellite-based systems, to identify and quantify mineral deposits, adding that Zimbabwe needed to strengthen its own exploration capabilities.

He said establishing the extent and economic value of the country’s mineral resources was critical to ensuring that they were properly managed and safeguarded for future generations.
