NEW: ZRP nets 4 000 unregistered vehicles blitz

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has so far impounded close to 4 000 unregistered motor vehicles after launching an operation on Saturday to both get rid of criminal elements and make motorists comply with registration, insurance and licensing laws.

The operation is also targeting pirate taxis.

In a statement, police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi urged the public to cooperate with police.

“So far, on January 17, 2022, the police has arrested 1 688 and the cumulative number of arrests now stands at 3 926 vehicles. We urge the public to cooperate with the police officers carrying out the current operation against unlicensed, uninsured, unregistered motor vehicles and non-complying PSV’s.”
