NewsDay truck used to smuggle 2nd-hand clothes

A NewsDay truck driver was arrested last Friday after police intercepted the truck he was driving laden with bales of second-hand clothes and shoes smuggled from Mozambique.
Police said James Jack (34) was travelling with a female companion, Gladys Mwasarira (35), when he was arrested at Riverside near Odzi after he failed to produce receipts for the goods.

Police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi told The Herald: “Police got a tip-off that the vehicle was being used to smuggle goods from Mozambique to Zimbabwe and made a follow-up.”

“The police intercepted the vehicle at Riverside near Odzi,” he said.
Police searched the NewsDay vehicle leading to the discovery of the contraband.
