NEW:Several feared dead after kombi catches fire along Bulawayo–Beitbridge Road

SEVERAL people are feared dead following a road incident in which a commuter omnibus reportedly caught fire along the Bulawayo–Beitbridge Road on Thursday afternoon.

In a statement posted on X, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said approximately 18 people died when the kombi exploded into flames between Chipangali and the Gwanda tollgate.

“The ZRP reports the death of plus or minus 18 people when a kombi exploded into fire between Chipangali and Gwanda tollgate along Bulawayo–Beitbridge Road between 1pm and 2pm today. More details to be released in due course,” said the police.

Details surrounding the cause of the fire remain unclear at this stage.
