THE national trade development and promotion agency, ZimTrade has called for applications for this year’s fourth edition of the Next She Exporter Programme, which promises new opportunities for women entrepreneurs from around the country.
Since its launch in 2021, The Next She Exporter programme has been a transformative force for Zimbabwean women in business, empowering them to break into international markets. Now in its fourth cycle, the initiative continues to expand its reach.
Through a strategic partnership with Nedbank, the programme has strengthened its provincial footprint, fostering innovation and inclusive growth.
Recently, the agency put out a call to female entrepreneurs who are ready to take their businesses to the next level to apply to participate in this year’s 4th edition, with the application deadline set for May 9, 2025.
ZimTrade said the last cycle saw remarkable progress, with micro and small businesses, particularly those adding value to local raw materials, making strides in niche export markets.
“The Next She Exporter has proven to be a catalyst for community empowerment, with many participants actively engaging in inclusive business practices, creating jobs and upskilling other women. After receiving over 300 applications in the previous cycle, the programme is poised for even greater engagement this year.”
ZimTrade chief executive officer (CEO), Mr Allan Majuru said this year, they are placing more emphasis on reaching underserved districts within each province.
“We want to ensure that women from rural and peri-urban communities have equal access to export development support. Additionally, there is a stronger focus on tracking transformation stories, including business growth metrics and community impact, ensuring that success is measurable and replicable,” he said.
ZimTrade said this year introduces a refined mentorship model, featuring peer-to-peer learning circles that encourage collaboration and shared problem-solving among women in the same value chains.
The programme will offer exciting opportunities across diverse sectors, including agro-processing, cosmetics and fashion, digital services, sustainable crafts and impact-driven enterprises.
The agency said limited spaces were available, while the enterprise should be female-owned with a minimum of two years’ operating in value-adding sectors (service companies are encouraged to apply).
ZimTrade said there should be a visible demonstration of an innovative model, displaying a unique and competitive advantage, social impact and environmentally friendly operations.
