Ngarava to lead Zimbabwe in one-off Bangladesh Test

Zimbabwe Cricket named a 15-man squad this Tuesday for the upcoming one-off Test against Bangladesh, with left-arm fast bowler Richard Ngarava appointed captain for the first time in the longest format.

The match is set to begin on Sunday at Harare Sports Club, marking Zimbabwe’s return to Test cricket after their dominant innings-and-73-run victory over Afghanistan at the same venue in October last year.

Ngarava was among the stand-out performers in that victory, claiming a five-wicket haul as Zimbabwe secured one of their most comprehensive Test wins in recent years.

Ben Curran struck a century in the match, while all-rounder Brad Evans also claimed five wickets to help seal the triumph.

Zimbabwe’s squad for the Bangladesh Test includes five players who did not feature in the Afghanistan encounter.

Innocent Kaia, Graeme Cremer, Tadiwanashe Marumani, Wessly Madhevere and Newman Nyamhuri have all been recalled following impressive performances in domestic and representative cricket.

Zimbabwe will miss experienced all-rounder Sikandar Raza, who has been granted permission to complete his commitments with Worcestershire County Cricket Club during the remainder of the 2026 Vitality Blast campaign in England.

The fixture renews a growing Test rivalry between Zimbabwe and Bangladesh, who last met in a two-match series in Bangladesh in April and May last year.

Zimbabwe claimed a memorable three-wicket victory in the opening Test to register their first win in the format in four years before Bangladesh bounced back to level the series by winning the second match.

Zimbabwe squad:
Richard Ngarava (captain), Ben Curran, Brian Bennett, Brad Evans, Graeme Cremer, Clive Madande, Tadiwanashe Marumani, Wessly Madhevere, Newman Nyamhuri, Innocent Kaia.
