Ngezi Platinum opened a six-point gap at the top of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League log after edging bottom-placed Black Rhinos 1-0 at Baobab yesterday.

Delic Murimba made the difference on the hour mark as his well struck effort outside the box was enough to seal maximum points for the Mhondoro-based side.

Ngezi Platinum coach Takesure Chiragwi said he is delighted the team is doing well and is able to scratch results in tough matches.

He also praised Rhinos for their resilience and tipped them to survive relegation if they continue with the spirit they exhibited. “We are doing well and we are winning. We really need to thank God for this win because it was a tough match.

“These guys were doing and the difference was just the scoreline. They came prepared showing that they don’t want to be relegated.

“I am happy we showed character and the resistance made sure we win the game keeping a clean sheet as usual.

“Rhinos are likely to survive relegation if they play all their remaining league games like they did against us today.

Rhinos head coach Saul Chamimuka said they will have to work on the positives they have noted and try win their next matches if they are to survive relegation.

“We created the opportunities and we failed to utilise our chances. Sometimes we overdid things to many passes in front of goal.  “We hope on Saturday we win against ZPC as chances of survival are still there but we should be winning games.

“It was a good lesson here and we will take positives in this game by taking note of the negatives of the things we didn’t do well,” he said.
