PREMIERSHIP champions Ngezi Platinum Stars are currently without a chairperson following the resignation of Leonard Musariri.
Musariri was appointed in June, 2020 as the executive chairperson, taking over from Silence Gavi in a boardroom reshuffle which was meant to give the ambitious side a competitive edge.
Under his guidance, the Mhondoro based side clinched their first championship since promotion on to the elite league in 2016.
It is understood Musariri tendered his resignation effective December 9 and when they officially celebrated the league title, he had already resigned although he was still waiting for the club to issue a public statement.
However, to date, Ngezi Platinum executives are yet to make Musariri’s departure public.
“His resignation was submitted during the first week of December, when the club still had outstanding commitments so they did not want to rush to release a statement to avoid disrupting the momentum in camp,” said a source.
Ngezi Platinum Stars spokesperson Rorberta Katunga could not immediately comment on the matter.
“I cannot give you a proper response right now, kindly put your questions to writing and we will respond.”
Reached for comment, Musariri asked the publication to call after an hour citing that he was busy.
However, his phone later went unanswered.
There have been suggestions that Musariri resigned out of frustration amid alleged bickering while, at the same time, having decided to focus more on his businesses after years of balancing the two.
The alleged bickering at the top has been blamed for the departure of former chief executive officer Yvvone Manwa.
She is understood to have resigned from her post months before landing the ZIFA CEO post and was already serving the last week of her three months’ notice.
Outside of the alleged internal strife, Musariri seemed to have a good relationship with coach Takesure Chiragwi as seen by the support rendered when Ngezi Platinum went on a dry spell late in the season, which allowed Dynamos and Manica Diamonds back into the title race.
