AN organisation has been formed to assist single mothers sustain themselves and their children through self-help projects and also to facilitate aid directed towards them.
Single Mother’s Foundation founder Ms Fortunate Matambanadzo said she was moved by the plight of single mothers in Zimbabwe, and decided to do something about it.
“I decided to help single mothers who fail to take care of their children,” she said. “As an organisation we started or focus on Mabvuku, an area that nurtured us and we are already assisting single mothers there with payment of school fees for their children.”
At least 35 children in Mabvuku-Tafara IN Harare are being assisted with school fees by the foundation. Ms Matambanadzo said her organisation was also donating clothes and food.
“It is better to give than to receive and I have realised that if in my own personal capacity I can help uplift someone, then I will do it,” she said.
The Single Mother’s Foundation is a non-profit organisation which seeks to help single mothers and their children by empowering, educating, equipping and encouraging them to start various perennial projects including peanut butter making, soap making, dress making which would ensure them and their families are sustained.
