Ngwenya wins sports-person of the year

HARARE-BASED Black Moses Academy successfully hosted the second edition of the annual Highfield Sports Arts awards at China Gardens in Milton Park on Sunday.

The awards ceremony honoured outstanding sports-persons who excelled during the 2023 season.

Stella Jongwe was crowned the sports person of the year.

Jongwe from Paralympics had an amazing season where she won 11 medals which included nine gold medals.

The best athlete award was won by Chido Maenzanise who had a good season in power-lifting. Also to make it to the podium was Maude Mashonganyika who was crowned most dedicated athlete as the academy also honoured some of their outstanding coaches.

Spencer Admire Mufari was voted the most presentable coach as nine year-old Mutiunokura Primary School student Ayesha Tseriwa was voted the most committed athlete.

The event was attended by high profile athletes, including six-time body-building champion Innocent Choga while Zimpapers chief executive, Pikirayi Deketeke was the guest of honour.

Moses Academy chairman Moses Nyamhotsi said they are happy to have successfully hosted the event.

“We successfully hosted the annual awards ceremony at China Gardens on Sunday where we honoured some outstanding athletes during the past season. The ceremony involved several athletes who did well during the past year.

“As an academy specialising in body-building, strongmen and strong-women, aerobics and arts among several other sports activities we are happy that we have gone a step further to motivate our athletes.

“We are happy that we have managed to hold this awards ceremony and we aim to motivate the athletes to do well next year,” said Nyamhotsi.
