FORMER Manica Diamonds head coach Johanisi Nhumwa has landed a coaching job at Filabusi-based Southern Region Division One side Jordan Sinnott.

Nhumwa had been working with the team that was promoted to Division One at the end of last year.

“I have been working with the boys at Jordan Sinnott for the past two weeks. We expect to compete well after getting the boys ready and mature to face stiff competition in this challenging league. We want to be championship contenders. It’s a different environment for me which requires me to work on the players’ techniques and tactics,” said Nhumwa, a Caf A coaching licence holder.

He parted ways with Manica Diamonds in October last year and was replaced by Jairos Tapera, who was in-charge of Triangle.

The Mutare-based Manica Diamonds took a gamble of firing Nhumwa just five games before the end of the 2021/2022 season.

Nhumwa was shown the exit door alongside his assistants.

In a friendly match that was meant to spice up the Talen Vision health awareness initiative, Nhumwa’s Jordan Sinnott charges drew 1-1 with the former in a match that was played before a good crowd at Mthwakazi                                                          Stadium.

Tanaka Nyoni scored for Vision while Wilfred Nyoni converted from the spot for Jordan Sinnott to level the  matters.

Jordan Sinnott is being sponsored by various Filabusi-based businesspeople that include Orchard Dube of Mvelase Private Limited who is into retailing and mining businesses.

“We assist the boys in various ways. We source transport money for them, we pay match referees and we also give them winning bonuses. The bonuses are pegged at US$10 and US$5 for a draw. These boys greatly need assistance,” said Dube, who is a retired member of the Zimbabwe Republic Police.

The team is named after the late English footballer, Jordan Sinnott who died in January 2020 at the age of 25. Sinnott was found unconscious with a suspected fractured skull in the early hours of January 25 2020, following an altercation in which he was attacked and sustained a head injury. – @Fungai Muderere
