The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sports, Recreation, Arts, and Culture, Nicholas Moyo, has expressed admiration for the Government’s State Assisted Recognition bestowed upon the late musical legends Eric Moyo and Bob Nyabinde, both laid to rest on Tuesday.
Eric Moyo passed away last week in South Africa while jazz maestro Nyabinde succumbed to a long battle with diabetes on Saturday.
Nicholas Moyo commended the government’s acknowledgment, categorising it as a third-tier recognition, where the government honours individuals whose contributions have positively represented the country.
“I am pleased to advise that the Government has accorded the following State Assisted Recognition to Bob Nyabinde. I am grateful for the honour granted as per our request. Such recognition is praiseworthy, indicating the Government’s acknowledgment of the arts sector.
“This dual recognition extends beyond the families of the deceased to the entire arts sector, and we are thankful for this gracious gesture,” he remarked.
Government officials were actively involved in the ceremonies preceding and during the burials of Nyabinde and Eric Moyo. Public Service Labour and Social Welfare Minister July Moyo, representing President Emmerson Mnangagwa, attended Nyabinde’s burial at Kwekwe Central Cemetery. Bulawayo Minister of State and Devolution, Judith Ncube, participated in Eric Moyo’s memorial service at the Zimbabwe International Exhibition Centre (ZIEC) Hall 3.
Minister July Moyo assured that the government would ensure the successful launch of Bob Nyabinde’s biography, which was in the process of being published at the time of his passing. – @MbuleloMpofu
