LOG leaders Nichrut made a bold statement in their quest for promotion with a 4-0 massacre of Makusha in a Central Soccer League match at the weekend.

A hat-trick by former Dynamos striker Jacob Muzokomba and Admire Hapazari’s strike moved Nichrut a step closer to bringing Premiership football to Shurugwi for the first time.

Nichrut remain tied at the top of the table with army side Tongogara on 67 points.

Tongogara beat Blanket Mine 2–1 at Battlefields.

With everything pointing to the promotional race being determined on the last day of the season, Nichrut did themselves a huge favour by increasing their goal difference as it might eventually decide the destiny of the title.

Nichrut gaffer John Nyikadzino was happy with the consistency displayed by his team and wants them to finish the season on a high.

“I am happy with the way we performed against Makusha, considering that it was a derby and they are always difficult because the players know each other and there is always pride at stake.

“What we now need to do is continue from where we left in the last games. We need to avoid dropping points,” said Nyikadzino.

While Nichrut and Tongogara managed to pick maximum points, fellow championship contenders Whawha dropped crucial points when they were held 0–0 by Telone at home.

The result left Luke Petros-Jukulile’s charges two points adrift of the log leaders and now need to ensure they win their remaining games and pray that Tongogara and Nichrut drop points along the way.
