Nigeria backs Harare: Envoy

against imperialism and called for increased business co-operation between the two countries.
Nigeria, as one of Africa’s powerhouses, Mr Sanusi said, would stand by Zimbabwe in socio-political issues that were being undermined by Britain and her allies.

Mr Sanusi made the remarks at an inauguration of the executive of the Nigerian community in Zimbabwe, last week. He urged Nigerians resident in the country to show their support to Zimbabwe by quashing the negative reports the country was getting from its detractors since they “are accommodated well in this country and their business activities are going smart”.

The two countries’ peoples, he said, should come together and share entrepreneurial skills for economic development for the prosperity of both countries.
Mr Sanusi, however, condemned the criminal behaviour of some Nigerians in the country, saying criminality had no place in any peace loving country across the globe.

He urged all the Nigerians who wanted to stay in Zimbabwe to have official immigration documents that would allow them to stay peacefully.
“Make sure you have required documents than to play hide and seek with the police,” said Mr Sanusi.

He said the relationship between Zimbabwe and Nigeria should be cemented. He added that the two countries’ relations were further strengthened by the recent visit to Nigeria by President Mugabe, to attend the inauguration of the Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan.

The chairman of NCZ, Mr Simon Udemba, pledged to work with the people of Zimbabwe particularly in the business sector. He said the Nigerians in Zimbabwe have since been united into one organisation and were seeking to co-operate with their Zimbabwean counterparts in areas of infrastructural development and mining.

“We have stood behind the people of Zimbabwe during the economic hardships and we are ready to go the extra miles in other areas of mutual interest,” he said.
Speaking at the same occasion former Health and Child Welfare Minister David Parirenyatwa applauded Nigerians in Zimbabwe for re-organising their community. This, he said, would help them deal with problems they might encounter expeditiously.

“You are very organised people for you have made this day a success and your concerns should be channelled through your association and they will be resolved.

“It is said divided we fall, united we stand, so work as a team in order to achieve your desired objectives,” said Dr Parirenyatwa.
