Acting Police Commissioner General Godwin Matanga made the remarks at a send-off ceremony for nine police officers, five to Liberia and four to South Sudan, and a welcome ceremony for 17 police officers from Liberia.
Out of the five departing to Liberia, three are women and among the 17 returning officers from Liberia, six are women.
“The Zimbabwean story of the liberation struggle is not complete without mentioning the contribution of women,” said Acting Comm-General Matanga.
He criticised political parties for fuelling political violence in the country.
“Police will not be mute and allow hooligans to roam wildly dictating the national space for self-aggrandisement,” he said.
“The constitution of Zimbabwe Section 93 (1) clearly mandates the police with the responsibility of maintaining peace and protecting life.
“Police do not author political violence; the county is brimming with optimism as can be seen from the peace and tranquility that the country is enjoying.”
This is the first time that the ZRP is sending four senior officers on a peace keeping mission to South Sudan.
“The senior officers have been chosen by the United Nations after a competitive and rigorous global selection exercise.
“As ambassadors of the country, do not get tossed about by every kind of doctrine, the Bible clearly states that homosexuality is a sin,” he said quoting the bible.
Officer-in Charge Beitbridge Urban Chief Inspector Cosmas Dowedowe and Superintendent Robert Majada who were part of the returning contingent from Liberia donated US$1 700 and US$300 respectively
towards the Commissioner General’s Welfare Fund.
