Nine die in fatal crash

NINE people died and several others were injured on Monday evening when two vehicles collided near Inkomo Barracks along the Harare-Chirundu Highway.

Police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, yesterday confirmed the accident but said more details will be released in due course.
“A Honda Fit had a head-on collision with a Nissan Caravan. Seven people travelling in the Honda Fit died while the other two were in the Nissan Caravan. We are going to release a detailed statement tomorrow (today) morning,” he said.

The driver of the Honda Fit which was headed towards Harare and was among those that perished.
Sources suggest that the collision occurred when the Nissan Caravan with 18 passengers on board went into the right lane as the driver tried to overtake and crashed into the oncoming Honda Fit.

Bodies of the deceased were taken to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals mortuary while the injured are also receiving treatment at the same hospital.
