The Ruwa Local Board is set to gazette nine additional by-laws that are expected to further enhance its status.
Town board secretary Mr Kumbirai Madanhi yesterday confirmed that they were planning to gazette the by-laws in terms of Sections 228 and 229 of the Urban Councils Act (Chapter29:15).
He said the by-laws covered anti-littering, advertising, cemeteries, public health, hawkers and vendors, commuter omnibus, taxi, market and dog licensing.
He said the by-laws would be gazetted before June 1.
“The proposed by-laws are meant to compel residents to preserve and protect the environment, prevention of pollution and environmental degradation, to ensure that our plans are achieved and to ensure good governance,” said Mr Madanhi.
He said once gazetted, the by-laws would become the administrative legal tools for the Ruwa Local Board in its day-to-day operations.
“They give us the legal basis to implement council resolutions and activities in the town,” said Mr Madanhi. “With the anti-litter by-law in place, we will able to control how litter is disposed by ratepayers, thereby ensuring a clean environment in our town.
