NINE schools will compete at the annual Jen Townshend Hockey Festival to be played today at St Thomas Aquinas Primary School, in Parklands, Bulawayo.
Defending champions SOS, Masiyephambili, Centenary, Sibanesezwe, Victoria Falls Primary, Portland, Dominican Convent, Christian Brothers College and the hosts St Thomas Aquinas will compete for the memorial trophy.
SOS are the boys and girls’ defending champions.
St Thomas Aquinas headmaster Cuthbert Chiromo said they are ready to play host to the festival.
“Everything is set for the festival and hopefully the kids are going to enjoy the sport. What is important about this festival is that it brings people together and at the end of the day these youngsters should make friends and share ideas. Winning is good but making friends is even better. We are teaching the kids to win with dignity and lose with honour,” Chiromo said.
He said they have organised match officials from the Matabeleland Hockey Association to handle the games.
