THE Joshua Nkomo National Foundation has embarked on projects to help empower churches and generate employment for the members of the community through the talent search programmes.
Speaking during the centenary celebrations held at Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Museum in Matsheumhlope in Bulawayo on Friday, Joshua Nkomo National Foundation and museum manager, Mr Mbonisi Fuyana said they were inviting all churches to participate in the projects meant to help create employment for youths.
The centenary celebrations were held in honour of the late Vice-President Dr Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo who could have turned 100 this year.
“We are inviting all churches to come together and participate in these projects. The projects that we are planning on doing are coming up with choirs, soccer teams and having a centre to teach pastors and the youth. The churches are going to benefit from these projects through sales that will be made in these competitions and this would promote church activities because 40 percent of the income generated will be for the church,” said Mr Fuyana.
He said there was no need to seek sponsors, but rather the churches should work together and support the work of the members of their congregations.
“I don’t think we need to have any sponsors, if we probably have 50 churches registering for the competitions for a dollar and the same $50 generated from the registration would be used as the prize money for the choir. To sustain these projects, we can use the entrance fees which will be $1 or $2 per head,” he said.
Mr Fuyana said there were some other projects they were planning to implement like soccer.
