DYNAMOS board chairman Bernard Marriot has dismissed claims that he has made changes to the Premier Soccer League giants executive committee, just 11 days after they registered their record third straight Chibuku Super Cup triumph.
Instead, the DeMbare boss and his board have literally red-flagged businessman Vincent Chawonza after the former club executive vice-chairperson was rumoured to be bouncing back to take charge of the Glamour Boys executive committee.
That Chawonza has been seen publicly tagging along Marriot has fuelled speculation that he was on his way back into the DeMbare management structures, more than a year after he was dismissed.
And early this week, print and electronic media, quoting “credible inside sources” reported that Chawonza was on the verge of taking over the chairmanship at Dynamos and was to dismiss members of the incumbent management led by Moses Maunganidze.
The reports sparked a response from the club’s appointing authority with Marriot issuing a statement to quell further speculation on the status of the Dynamos leadership.
He note that DeMbare were concerned with the purported canvassing, which he felt sent wrong signals of instability at the Harare giants, who needed the last day of the league programme to seal their survival from relegation under Zambian coach Kelvin Kaindu.
Seven days after securing their Premiership status, Dynamos then gave their fans who had endured long spells of disappointment, something to cheer about when becoming the first team to win three successive Chibuku Super Cup titles.
Although he did not name Chawonza in his statement, that it came following reports liking the businessman to a takeover of the club’s executive committee chairman arrowed the rebuttal to the ex-vice-chairman.
“The club (Dynamos) has noted with concern that there is an individual who has issued and caused to be issued statements in the print and electronic media, alleging that he has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Executive Committee of Dynamos Football Club,’’ read part of the statement.
“By so doing, the aforesaid individual has insinuated that the current Chairman of the Executive Committee has been relieved of his duties.”
Marriot said Dynamos have not made any changes and they aren’t considering any at this point.
“The correct position is that there have not been any changes to the Executive Committee of Dynamos Football Club.
“Emerging from a triumphant escape from the PSL relegation and having just won a record 3rd Chibuku Super Cup, the Club and its leadership are currently working flat out to prepare for the 2026 season during which the target is to ensure that the team reclaims its dominance in both the local and international foot-ball assignments.
“There is no room for side shows such as the one being incited by the individual mentioned above, to which the team’s forgettable performance in the just ended Premier Soccer League season is attributed.
“Therefore, we would like to reassure our beloved fans, stakeholders and our staff that the club’s stability and focus on the upcoming season is guaranteed.”
Interestingly, power wrangles at Dynamos have often taken centre stage especially at the end of each season.
But in a season in which they struggled for funding and were outmuscled by more monied rivals such as newly-crowned champions Scottland, Simba Bhora and MWOS, Dynamos will take some solace in their new-found tag of being cup kings following the Chibuku three-peat.
Marriot is hoping Dynamos can build on their strong finish to the season for next year.
