THE Zimbabwe Republic Police have rolled out a powerful new crime-fighting arsenal with high-powered boats, rugged bikes and new canine vehicles hitting the ground in a nationwide security boost.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the move marks a major upgrade in law enforcement, rescue operations and emergency response across the country.
He said the new fleet will patrol rivers, lakes and dams while bikes and canine vehicles will tighten security in rural areas, farming communities and busy city centres.

“The Commissioner-General of Police, Stephen Mutamba has released several boats for police operations which include rescue activities, water escorts and patrols along the country’s major waterways,” said Commissioner Nyathi.
“The high powered boats will be strategically deployed in police provinces and stations to strengthen law enforcement and emergency response capabilities.”

The boats are expected to play a key role in fighting river crimes, illegal crossings, smuggling and assisting in rescue missions during floods and accidents on water.
Communities living near major waterways are set to benefit from faster response times and stronger patrols as police take the fight to criminals who use rivers and dams as escape routes.
Comm Nyathi revealed that police have also rolled out tough off-road bikes designed for rapid response in hard-to-reach areas.
“In the same vein, the Commissioner-General of Police commissioned Police Bikes for scene attendance and patrols in areas with rugged terrain,” he said.
“These include farming communities, rural areas and central business districts in all the country’s provinces.”
The bikes will allow officers to reach crime scenes faster, chase down suspects and patrol remote areas where ordinary vehicles struggle to operate.
The police canine unit has also received a major boost with new vehicles to improve crime detection and public safety operations.
“As part of efforts to provide improved and quality service to Zimbabweans, the ZRP also commissioned new vehicles for use by Police Canine team to attend to reports of crime, tracking suspects, manage public order situations, sniffing for drugs and general searches during crowd control activities,” said Comm Nyathi.
The dog section is known for cracking tough cases using trained sniffer dogs and trackers who help hunt down dangerous criminals.
The new vehicles will ensure faster deployment of canine teams during major operations and public events.
The latest upgrades signal a clear message that the police are strengthening their muscle on land and water.
With boats on rivers, bikes on rough terrain and dogs on the scent, criminals are set to face a tougher fight than ever before.
