THE Government has reiterated that Munhumutapa Day set for Monday, September 15, is not a public holiday.
This clarification comes amid misleading discussions and expectations surrounding the recognition of the day.
The Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, Kazembe Kazembe, yesterday confirmed that the day is not a public holiday and there are no changes.
“We have not been given that instruction. The day was never declared a holiday; should there be a proposal for the day to be a holiday, normal procedure will be followed.
“But it is a day set aside to remember the Munhumutapa Day,” said Minister Kazembe.
While many individuals and organisations had hoped for a public holiday to mark the day, the Government’s stance indicates that such changes will require formal proposals and assessments.
As a result, businesses and schools will operate as usual on the day, with no interruptions to the working week.
