EVEN without a nomination in the Promoter of the Year category at this year’s National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA), the organisers of Doek and Slay Ladies want to show that recognition is not always defined by trophies but by impact.
Some analysts felt the organisers of Doek and Slay and Chipaz Promotions dominated the scene last year and should have been nominated for the NAMA.
However, they were both ignored.
Chipaz held successful events such as Tete-A-Tete, the Cup Clash and many others.
The “Mega Doek and Slay,” event at the Glamis Arena attracted the biggest crowd to a show in this country last year, despite the poor weather.
Yesterday, Harare CBD was buzzing with excitement as women thronged ticket outlets to secure their spots for the capital’s first Doek and Slay Ladies show this year, which is set for April 26 at the Glamis Arena.
For this edition ladies will slay in pistachio green, olive green, accented with touches of ivory and white.
The organisers say the colours are meant to reflect natural African tones in a modern way, highlighting how fashion trends continue to blend cultural influences with urban style.
Winky D, alongside Travellers Band, Oriyano, and Killer T are set to perform.
Mutare will be the first stop with the legend Alick Macheso and Oriyano performing at Mutare Sports Club on April 5.
On May 3, Bulawayo will be hosting Nkosazana Daughter and Travellers Band.
“Doek and Slay appreciates the overwhelming support from our patrons across the country, particularly in Harare,” said the organisers.
The platform, created by Event Hulks, has become far more than a social gathering.
