Zimbabwe Teachers’ Association chief executive officer Mr Sifiso Ndlovu told The Sunday Mail yesterday that all Government employees were expected to turn up for duty as usual tomorrow as their representative bodies have not declared job action.
He said the Apex Council would again meet Government officials this week to resolve outstanding issues surrounding remuneration.
He said members would be advised on the way forward after the interface.
The Apex Council is an umbrella body comprising all associations representing Government’s 260 000-strong workforce.
“As a member of the Apex Council, I can state that we have not advised anyone to go on strike,” he said. “We only gave the Government an ultimatum of seven days giving them time to go and re-organise themselves.
“The ultimatum lapses on Tuesday, so the next meeting is likely to be next Wednesday.”
Last week some civil servant representatives threatened job action starting tomorrow after negotiations with Finance Minister Tendai Biti and his Public Service counterpart, Professor Eliphas Mukonoweshuro, failed to yield the desired result.
A seven-day ultimatum giving Government room to come up with a better package lapses this week.
The Government employees are pushing for the minimum income to be slated at US$502.-The Sunday Mail
