No support for MDC-T in Chiredzi, Mwenezi

In Chiredzi North, the MDC-T has been trying to set up structures over the past two years, but ended up abandoning the plans due to lack of support. The situation is also reportedly the same in Mwenezi West and East where the MDC-T has also failed to constitute a fully-fledged district assembly since 2009.

Mwenezi East and West together with Chiredzi North are traditional Zanu-PF strongholds.
“We have not been very successful in our previous attempts to set up viable party structures in Mwenezi East and West together with Chiredzi North,” said an MDC-T official who preferred anonymity.

MDC-T Masvingo provincial chairman Mr Wilstaf Sitemere conceded that they had failed to set up fully fledged structures in Mwenezi and Chiredzi, but denied that the situation was reflective of lack of support. Mr Sitemere said in Mwenezi East and West, his party had structures for all the wings save for the youth wing, a scenario he attributed to the cross-border trekking to neighbouring South Africa by youths.

In Chiredzi North, Mr Sitemere claimed that his party had not yet managed to constitute a fully-fledged district assembly, attributing the situation to lack of resources.
